Mogadishu, (InsideSomalia.org) Vietnam affirmed its support to the Somali Government's efforts in national reconciliation and political process and the extension of the mandate of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM).
Vietnamese representative to the United Nations Security Council Ambassador Le Luong Minh made the statement at a consultation meeting on the situation of Somalia in New York on February 15, as quoted by Vietnam News Agency.
The Vietnamese diplomat expressed his deep concern over the security and humanitarian situation in Somalia and condemned attacks against international humanitarian workers in the African country and UN offices in Mogadishu.
He took the occasion to praise AMISOM's role and call the international community to provide necessary resources to help AMISOM carry on its activities.
Regarding a long-term and lasting solution to the conflicts in Somalia, Ambassador Minh emphasised Vietnam's support to the UN Secretary General's policy to promote the dialogue between the Somali Government and opposition forces and increase the strength for AMISOM to restore peace and security in Somalia.
